Chickasabogue Park is an 1100 acre park located in Mobile County. If you're driving through Mobile or staying in the area, this is a solid location to either run, hike, or mountain bike. There are also camping and disc golf options. For me, it was a much needed break on the drive deeper into Alabama.

Parts of this hike parallel Chickasaw Creek which eventually flows into Mobile Bay. You'll walk a wide and shaded path delineated by clear trail markers. The elevation gain is minimal, but enough to keep you interested in an otherwise flat landscape.

The history of the park is notable. Indigenous peoples lived in this area during the Woodland and Mississippi Periods around 1500 BCE, with several archaeological sites having been located within park boundaries.

From a more recent area, the Cemetery Trail lives up to its namesake. The Myers Cemetery, dating back to 1866, is a brief stopping point on the trail.

On a much more nerdy note, I did notice a particular type of lichen growing on many of these trees. Cryptothecia rubrocinta is a species of fungal lichen in the family Arthoniaceae. They almost look like bullseyes growing on the trunks.
